It’s All About The Food!
The menus at Grace Cafe will rotate weekly and seasonally. Selections will be made from what is available locally from vendors, farmers and bakers in our community and surrounding areas. Our goal is to serve delicious and healthy dishes in keeping with the tastes of Kentucky and the way people used to cook and eat before big supermarkets – fresh, local, hearty and flavorful.

Let’s get started! Here’s a family recipe from Nick’s mom, Jonnie Lacy – really, her name was Mary, but everyone knew her as Jonnie.
Beef Upsy Downsy
1-1/2 c flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp celery salt
1/4 tsp white pepper
5 tbs canola oil (the original recipe calls for shortening)
3/4 c milk
1/4 c sliced onion (I use as much as traffic will bear)
1 can tomato soup
1 lb ground beef (best quality you can afford)
Cook onions until soft in 2 tbs of oil. Add meat and brown. Add soup. Bring to a boil. Put into a casserole and cover with the following: Sift first 6 ingredients together. Add 3 tbs of oil to milk and add to dry stuff. You can glob the dough on top. It will spread out itself – magically. Bake at 475 degrees for 20 minutes.
